To-Do List:

    Before Your Welcome Meeting:

  • Explore this Davey Onboarding Experience website with your personal device to get an overview of what to expect. Follow the Davey Tree links to learn more about our company.
  • Complete the employee step to your online application, including the W-4 and direct deposit set-up. The link to complete this step will be sent to you via email, or you may complete this at your Welcome Meeting.
  • Be sure to bring your I-9 identification to your Welcome Meeting.
  • Write down any questions you have and bring them to your Welcome Meeting.
  • During Your Welcome Meeting:

  • Complete your "Orientation Step" online with your Hiring Manager.
  • Learn more about what to expect on your first day, such as uniform requirements for your office.
  • Before Day 1:

  • Make sure you are prepared with all the necessary materials for your first day on the job. Davey will provide some items, such as uniform and Personal Protective Equipment. Other items you will provide, such as over-the-ankle work boots.

As you begin your career with Davey Tree, there will be many opportunities for learning about our company and your role. During your first week, use this tool to navigate your pathway to success.

To-Do List:

    Day 1:

  • Arrive on your first day 15-20 minutes early to give yourself time to acclimate to the office and find your Manager and Onboarding Mentor.
  • Items to bring your first day: New Hire Onboarding Guide, Davey-issued PPE, over-the-ankle work boots, well-balanced healthy food, and a reusable container for hydration.
  • Claim your Davey account through System Access Manager (sam.davey.com). You will need to download the DuoMobile app for two-factor authentication security protection of your account, your employee number, and your cost enter/territory ID number to complete this step.
  • Download DaveyConnect, the company’s employee communication channel that provides real-time company information, useful tools, targeted content, updates, and reminders. Download instructions are included below in the helpful links section.
  • Complete your New Hire Onboarding Guide checklist for Day 1. All information can be found through the links on this website or on the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • You may have safety courses assigned to you in the LMS that can be completed at home. The time that you spend completing *required* safety courses will be paid time.
  • Before you leave the office at the end of the day, complete the questions in the Check-in Guide. Reflect on what you completed for the day and what you might still have questions about. Check in with your Manager and Mentor.
  • Week 1:

  • Always arrive at the office 10-15 minutes early to give yourself time to organize your PPE and other equipment. This also gives you a chance to focus yourself on the job before starting your day.
  • Complete your New Hire Onboarding Guide checklist for Days 2 and 3-5, working with your Manager, Trainer, and Mentor, and in the LMS independently.
  • Continue with role-specific training on the job site and in the office, utilizing your Davey Career Development Books and Davey Safety Training Manual where applicable.
  • Take time to read over the Introduction book to your Career Development Program and the Davey Employee Handbook. 
  • Complete the questions in the Check-in Guide for Days 2 and 3-5.

Overview of the benefits offered to employees and their family through Davey Tree. New and rehired employees are eligible for benefits on their hire date and will have 30 days to make elections. Please note: Insurance premiums are effective from the hire date. Employees who wait to complete enrollment until the end of the 30-day period will see a full month of premiums deducted in the first paycheck after benefits enrollment.

This manual will guide you through general safety training and role-specific training at Davey Tree.
As part of making Davey a great place to work we ask you to report any activity that you believe is inconsistent with our ethics, policies, or values, including Whistleblower complaints.

Onboarding with Davey Tree continues through your first few months, as you continue to advance your skills and learn more about your role with the company.

To-Do List:

    Month 1:

  • Meet with your Hiring Manager and utilize your New Hire Onboarding Guide and Career Development Books to write a plan for your career path.
  • Take a deep-dive into the Davey Tree benefits in the LMS, complete your benefit enrollment forms, and turn the forms in to HR within your first 30 days.
  • Schedule regular check-ins with your Hiring Manager and your Mentor, at least every other week.
  • Complete your New Hire Onboarding Guide checklist for Months 1-3.
  • Months 2-3:

  • Complete all required safety courses in the LMS.
  • Complete all required safety training with your team, including First Aid & CPR and Defensive Driving.
  • Focus on role-specific training with your team, the Career Development Books, the Safety and Training Manual, and LMS coursework.
  • As you progress through your New Hire Onboarding Guide and Career Development Books, take time weekly to reflect on your progress. Use the questions in the Check-in Guide for Months 1-3 to consider your progress.
  • Review the Davey Employee Health and Wellness link (from Week 1) and reflect on how you are adapting to your new role physically and mentally.
